The Los Angeles Lakers are in desperate need of a new head coach, and the perfect option would be Kobe Bryant

The day in approaching when Kobe Bryant is done playing in the NBA and, shortly after, Byron Scott will hopefully be terminated from coaching the Los Angeles Lakers. Ultimately, the Lakers’ first target in their search for a coach should be Bryant. Considering how long he has remained with the Lakers, his intelligence for the game of basketball, and who Bryant has become as a leader, Kobe would be the perfect option.

Bryant is currently in his 20th and final season. The question he should be asking himself is simple: What’s next after retirement? Kobe is probably thinking it’s time for a break, time to relax with his family. However, the Lakers are in awful condition to just let Bryant slip through their fingers.

Bryant is one of basketball’s greatest players as he is constantly being compared to Michael Jordan. One major idea that the two legendary players have in common is they both know there is always room for improvement. We’ve heard about Kobe’s unbelievable work ethic from multiple players since he was drafted. Therefore, it’s going to take someone like Bryant to show the Lakers’ young roster the hard work it takes to win championships.

The leadership skills that Bryant has gained are phenomenal. Soon after Bryant was drafted in the league, he showed the Lakers and the rest of the NBA world that he wasn’t scared of anything, by feuding with Shaquille O’Neal. Bryant has not changed a bit as he continues to yell at his teammates when they are unable to complete a play, especially in practice. However, the young roster doesn’t seem to mind, and actually enjoys his pushing them to a different level.

If Bryant can bring that level of intensity to practice as a player, then he’s capable of turning each and every single practice into an intricate battle with an insane level of intensity as a coach.

Bryant has already developed a bond with the young guys on the roster that have superstar potential, like Julius Randle, D’Angelo Russell, and Larry Nance Jr. They all look up to him, respect him, and cling onto every word of advice that they receive from Bryant. Although Bryant gets frustrated and discouraged by his team, his teammates are taking his advice as they slowly develop.

The Lakers are in a tough spot right now and, given a certain amount of time, Bryant could turn the Lakers around into a winning team again. If there is one thing Kobe Bryant knows, it’s how to win and succeed in the game of basketball. Bryant might even say yes to coaching the Lakers if he was given the right amount of money.

Love him or hate him, Kobe Bryant has earned respect for developing into the player that he is today. It would be in the Lakers’ best interest to pursue Bryant as a coach when his playing career has been completed. The Lakers are one of the NBA’s longest-running franchises as they hold 16 championship banners, which is why the Lakers need to be focused on finding a phenomenal coach with basketball running through his veins.
