5. Phoenix Suns

The Phoenix Suns would certainly be one of those teams that qualifies as not being a contender, but they are a team that is desperate need of essentially starting to blow things up. They have a roster that seemingly doesn’t fit well together on the court and that fits even worse together from a chemistry standpoint. Subsequently, dumping salary for an expiring contract to try and start rebuilding might be the best course of action for them.

In terms of on the court, there’s almost nothing that the Suns could do to fix most of their problems as probably their biggest issue this year is the litany of injuries they’re being forced to endure. However, picking up a player like Hibbert that would ultimately open up $15 million on the cap this summer would be a huge asset for the franchise moving forward.

The Suns gave a huge contract to veteran center Tyson Chandler this offseason that doesn’t expire until the summer of 2019. While many Lakers trade scenarios feature them opening up cap space, a one-for-one trade for Chandler would actually make sense for both teams. Phoenix would be able to get out of that contract and start anew while the Lakers would get a rim protector still, but one who’s more capable of working more aptly in the pick-and-roll with D’Angelo Russell.
