3. Minnesota Timberwolves (via 3-Team Deal)

This is certainly swinging for the fences, I’ll admit, but there’s a trade out there that would ultimately send Hibbert to the Minnesota Timberwolves. However, for this deal to make sense for all parties, the Timberwolves would actually be the third team involved in a trade involving the Lakers and the Atlanta Hawks.

More from Lakers Rumors

The Hawks have reportedly been fielding offers for Al Horford leading up to the 2016 NBA Trade Deadline in the fear that the impending free agent will leave this summer and leave the Hawks with a major hole. Subsequently, they’ve been looking for a “Godfather” type offer to help sure up their roster going forward. Moreover, the Lakers should be interested in Horford as he’ll likely be a target in free agency and having his bird rights would give them a major advantage in that scenario.

This possible trade would feature Hibbert landing with Minneosta, Horford on the Lakers, and the Hawks getting Nikola Pekovic, a young prospect, and some sort of package of picks. While that may not be enough, the Hawks would get a quality big man who’s not getting time in Minnesota right now, the Wolves would get a big expiring, and the Lakers would get in the driver’s seat for a Horford free agency push. It’s a long shot, but it has to at least be put on the table before the deadline.
