Whenever high-school prospects are touted substantially and heavily, it’s always a good rule of thumb to consider them with a healthy dose of skepticism. But from a physical perspective, there’s not a lot to questions and nothing to be remotely skeptical about when it comes to Thon Maker.

Since hype began swirling around the Sudanese-Australian over three years ago, his impressive size and how he can move at that size has been the catalyst behind his national intrigue. At 7-0 with a nearly 7-3 wingspan, Maker instantly began drawing comparisons to young talents like Kevin Garnett and Kevin Durant.

With seemingly a library of impressive mixtapes, it’s easy to see why so many are intrigued by the ceiling of the well-rounded behemoth. His quickness and ball handling is eye-popping for a kid who was just 16-years-old in the video clips above, and his blatant height advantage makes him a terror around the rim.

Looking at his size and athleticism, its hard not to be optimistic, although the talent-level of his peers and his inconsistent showings last summer tempered the loftier expectations. Either way, there’s a lot to like about his raw abilities even if he emerges as more of a long-term project.
