Chinese prospect, Zhou Qi recently had some of his pre-draft workouts posted by Draft Express where he showed off just what kind of player he could be in the NBA

Just last week, we threw Chinese prospect, Zhou Qi’s name into the fray in regards to players who the Los Angeles Lakers could select with their 32nd overall draft pick.

Seeing how Qi isn’t even expected to go in the first round in ESPN Insider Chad Ford’s latest mock draft, it’s fair to say that the Lakers could have an actual shot at snagging yet another gem with their late pick.

Draft Express recently posted a video of Zhou Qi’s pre-draft workouts providing people with a better look at just what kind of player he could become in the Association.

Even though scouts and analysts alike are quick to place the Kristaps Porzingis’ tag on Croatian prospect, Dragan Bender, Qi could actually be a better fit.

To start the video, the site lists his strengths as follows:

  • Very light on feet – fluid footwork
  • Impressive skill set for size
  • Nice touch from perimeter

In the short three minute video, Zhou’s smooth footwork and jumpshot were put on display, as was his thin 7-foot-2 frame.

From stand still jumpers to one dribble, spin move dunks, Zhou looked comfortable both with and without the ball. That said, towards the end of the video you were able to see what many will be skeptical about come draft night: his stamina or lack thereof.

When watching a player workout or play for the first time, an interesting thing to note is the sneakers that the player is wearing. In this case, Qi is seen wearing a pair of Kobe XIs and Jordan XX9s which are interesting choices seeing that these pairs are normally showcased by guards.

Keeping this in mind, this could be an indicator of the type of player Zhou sees himself as, more guard than big man.

If the Lakers are able to draft a center capable of not only defending the rim but also knocking down outside shots, they would be able to fill both of the holes that have plagued them for the past few seasons, essentially killing two birds with one stone.
