With exactly two weeks left to go until the NBA Draft, the Lakers have made a conscientious effort to work out as many players as possible.

Following the worst season in franchise history, the Los Angeles Lakers found themselves in a lucky position last month, earning the number two overall pick in the NBA Draft for the second time in as many years.

Despite having the second pick in a draft that is widely considered to be a race between two top players in Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram, the team has made deliberate to effort to work out as many prospects as possible.

Per Mark Medina of the LA Daily News, the Lakers – who just worked out Brandon Ingram today – will conduct private workout sessions with former Kentucky big man Skal Labissiere and former California guard Jaylen Brown on Friday.

As a freshman, Brown averaged 14.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game while providing solid perimeter defense. Similarly, Labissiere averaged 6.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game in his first season under John Calipari.

At this point, it would be surprising if the Lakers do not merely choose whichever player – either Ingram or Simmons – the Philadelphia 76ers elect not to draft. However, it is never a bad idea to do your due diligence and widen the scope of draft choices.

After all, that is how the team landed D’Angelo Russell last season after most fans expected the team to draft Jahlil Okafor with the second overall selection.
