The latest 2016 NBA free agency rumors say that the Lakers are among the ‘suitors’ for forward Chandler Parsons

With the room under the salary cap that the Los Angeles Lakers have heading into 2016 NBA free agency, it stands to reason that they are going to be in the mix for a lot of the big name free agents—or will at least attempt to be. Many of the big names tossed around have been guys like Kevin Durant (even if that’s not happening), Nicolas Batum, Hassan Whiteside, and Al Horford.

Now we can reportedly throw Chandler Parsons into the mix and in a major way.

According to a report from ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, the Lakers are considered to be one of the ‘suitors’ for the unrestricted free agent forward coming off of an injury-plagued stay with the Dallas Mavericks:

MacMahon also sourced a report from ESPN’s Marc Stein that the Memphis Grizzlies join the Lakers in the hunt for Parsons.

Like many players in this class of free agents, it’s hard to know where to value Parsons this offseason. When healthy, there’s no question that Parsons brings a great deal to the table as he’s able to score in a variety of ways, play and defend multiple positions with his size and length, and much more.

However, that caveat of “when healthy” is especially critical when it comes to Parsons because, quite frankly, he hasn’t been. The forward has been dealing with a slew of knee injuries in recent years that have kept him off of the floor often and limited his effectiveness when he was able to suit up.

In addition to that, Parsons also recently expressed that he feels that he’s worth a max contract—even with the max contracts rising with the salary cap. If that’s what it’s going to take to sign the forward for the Lakers, I’d advise staying away given the concerns. But a Parsons signing is clearly something that fans should have on their radar now.
