Lakers: When Does the 2016-17 NBA Season Start?
Looking at when the 2016-17 NBA season starts and when the Lakers will be taking the floor
To say that the last two seasons have been forgettable for the Los Angeles Lakers would be a vast understatement. If there are fans who haven’t already forgotten the countless losses of the Byron Scott era, they’re certainly in the process of trying. But alas, the 2016-17 NBA season is just around the corner and that brings new hope for the Lakers.
Obviously a big part of that new hope is the arrival of Luke Walton as the new head coach of the Lakers starting with the 2016-17 NBA season. However, rookie Brandon Ingram making his way into the league while the rest of the young core like D’Angelo Russell, Jordan Clarkson, Julius Randle, Larry Nance Jr., and others has another year to grow together.
Granted, it doesn’t exactly look as if the Lakers are going to be a playoff team when it’s all said and done in the 2016-17 NBA season, but that doesn’t mean that they won’t be much improved. With a much more player-friendly system and progression of the young players, LA shouldn’t be in terrible danger of finishing as the worst in the Western Conference again.
Suffice it to say that there is definite excitement among Lakers fans about the upcoming season. As such, fans must be asking the simple question of when the 2016-17 NBA season starts.
The 2016-17 NBA season will officially begin on October 25, 2016, four days after the preseason subsides on October 21.
As for when the Lakers will begin their run in the new season, we won’t know if they’re playing on opening night of the regular season or not until the schedule is released some time in mid-August.
