The new look Los Angeles Lakers seem to be thoroughly enjoying their time together and the proof is in the footage
This year the Lakers feature a whole new coaching staff, a new head coach with his own way of doing things, a new location to start training camp, and four new rookies.
As tradition requires, Julian Jacobs, Ivica Zubac, Zach Auguste, and Brandon Ingram were all hazed a bit after their third day of practice on the UC Santa Barbara campus in front of an adoring crowd.
You will have to decide yourself if this was more or less embarrassing that what the Los Angeles Dodgers rookies had to do (wear cheerleading outfits in public), but we are hoping their singing talents are no indication of their basketball playing talent. It wasn’t pretty, although it was pretty funny.
Jacbos went first with his rendition of Katy Perry’s “Roar” much to the delight of the students who were lucky enough to get a wristband to attend practice. The students didn’t know they would be treated to a lip sync contest.
Next up was Zubac who attempted to channel his innner Beyonce by singing a very famous song which is associated with a specific dance. Nope, Zub didn’t perform the dance, darn it! But what he did do is attempt to ‘Put a ring on it.’ Not sure the ring fit.
Two rookies up and two rookies to go. Would any rookie have a good singing voice? Up to this point the answer was a “no.”
Auguste added a few nice touches to his performance of XX, he got the crowd into it and stayed on tune for a little longer than the others, it was tolerable and a bit cute. His dancing and swaying added a lot to his performance.

Last rookie up was the number two draft pick Brandon Ingram. Students chanted for him awaiting his entrance. He didn’t just grab the mic, he even dressed in a poodle costume, which surprisingly fit!
We may have gotten an inkling into the personalities of these rookies, as this was a great idea by Coach Walton and the veterans as everyone thoroughly enjoyed the contest.
Ingram took on Rihanna, reading the lyrics off his phone to sing her hit song, “Diamonds In the Sky.” The students loved it but it was clear, strike four, none of them have a great singing voice, but they do have guts and a sense of humor.
