The Los Angeles Lakers have signed D-Fenders guard David Nwaba to a second 10-day contract, according to multiple reports.

Former Cal Poly San Luis Obispo product and Los Angeles native David Nwaba has made the most of his time with the Los Angeles Lakers. While he hasn’t stuffed the box score, his defensive effort and hustle have earned him a second 10-day contract with the Purple and Gold.

The 24-year-old guard signed his first 10-day contract with LA on Feb. 28. In his first 10 days with the Lakers, Nwaba averaged 2.6 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game, with his highest scoring game coming against the Boston Celtics on March 3 where he scored seven points.

Head coach Luke Walton was impressed with Nwaba in his first 10 days and endorsed that he get a second run with the Purple and Gold before he was signed, according to Mark Medina of the OC Register.

"“He’s done, in my opinion, everything he can to deserve another 10-day,” Walton said. “I like his defensive intensity. I like his character as a person. I like his work ethic. Those are types of qualities we want around our locker room.”"

Nwaba likely won’t see his playing time increase in these next 10 days with the production Walton’s getting out D’Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson, but even garbage time minutes will help Nwaba’s development.

The Lakers won’t be able to sign the former D-Fender to a third 10-day, so if Nwaba impresses in his second 10-day, LA will have to sign him to a multi-year deal with non-guaranteed or partially guaranteed money.

If not, Los Angeles can explore other options on the market and wait until this summer to give Nwaba another look.
