The Los Angeles Lakers finally landed their man. After much posturing, the Lakers have finally selected UCLA star point guard Lonzo Ball with the second overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.
This was a move that many people anticipated once the Lakers landed the second pick in the NBA Draft Lottery. Ball’s father, LaVar, has been speaking it into existence for months and now it is official.
This was the second move the Lakers made for the 2017 NBA Draft. On Tuesday, the Lakers traded D’Angelo Russell and Timofey Mozgov to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Brook Lopez and the 27th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. The move is going to be made official tonight.

With Russell out of the picture, Ball should immediately step into the starting point guard role. With Ball at the helm, the Lakers now have the floor leader that they have been desperate to find.
Ball’s passing skills are otherworldly. The offense should improve based on that alone, as Ball will find his teammates in transition or while running half-court sets. Ball possesses excellent court vision and ball handling, so his teammates should be excited to play alongside him.
Along with the passing skills, Ball also has deep range on his three-point shot. The Lakers desperately need some players to spread the court, and Ball will help in that area. Lopez will help in the three-point shooting department as well.
The Lakers are already having a strong 2017 NBA Draft, and there is plenty more to come. The Lakers own the 27th and 28th picks, so they are nowhere near done. The Lakers could be adding two more young players to their roster, or do they have something else up their sleeve?
