Defense/Turnovers:
Lastly, Rondo, who is 31 years old, has lost a step or two on the defensive end of the court the past few seasons. Over his career, he showed he could be a good defender, but too often only plays defense when he feels like it. One area on defense where he still is productive is getting a couple steals per night.
Last season Rondo ranked 138th in all of the NBA in overall defense. He held a defensive rating of 106.3. With the Bulls last year, opponents shot 46.7 percent from the field, and 52.7 percent from inside the three-point line.
The Lakers need to get a lock down defender to help improve upon their lackluster defense from a year ago. Rondo just shows too much inconsistency, and his effort can be worrisome.
To continue, throughout Rondo’s career he has had problems with turning the ball over. Throughout his twelve seasons, he’s averaging just shy of three turnovers per game.
During the 2014-15 season, he averaged 3.9 turnovers a game. This isn’t something that you want to see from a backup point guard when you have a young potential star in Lonzo Ball adjusting in his first year to the NBA.
