Recent Lakers rumors have been about their interest in a point guard this offseason. Recently, they have been checking into Rajon Rondo.
With free agency underway, there have been plenty of Lakers rumors surrounding what they might do.
After a few days, it became clear that the Lakers are looking to add another guard in free agency. They have reportedly expressed interest in George Hill, Dion Waiters, and Rajon Rondo. With Hill signing with Kings, the Lakers have obviously moved on from him. However, Waiters and Rondo are both still available.
While Waiters and Rondo are both guards, they are very different players. Most likely, the Lakers would prefer to have Rondo, as he is a more traditional point guard, which is more of a need than a combo guard like Waiters. However, interest in Rondo does come with some red flags.
Since leaving Boston, Rondo has bounced around the NBA and gotten a bad reputation. With this is mind, the Lakers are doing their due diligence according to Mark Medina and checking in with Rondo’s former teammates and coaches.
"As for the Lakers, they had inquired about Rondo with numerous former teammates and coaches in recent days, according to a league source familiar with the situation. After Rondo’s representatives initiated talks shortly after free agency began on Friday, the Lakers viewed Rondo as someone that could play both as a reserve and in a starting role along with rookie point guard Lonzo Ball. The Lakers also see Rondo as someone who could become a positive mentor for Lonzo."
Because of his past problems with coaches and teammates, the Lakers are being very wise checking in with as many people as possible on Rondo. However, on the court, Rondo would be a good addition for the Lakers.
