Los Angeles Lakers: 5 players to consider to fill out roster
The Los Angeles Lakers have a few roster spots still open. Here are five players the Lakers could look at to fill out their roster.
The Los Angeles Lakers had a very successful Las Vegas Summer League. Los Angeles took home the championship as their young players performed very well. With the Summer League now over, it is time to turn their attention back to the NBA roster.
Free agency is pretty much over at this point in time. Teams have used up a big majority of their available money and most of the big named players have signed. The Lakers, though, still have some roster spots and needs left to fill.
The Lakers were quiet at the onset of free agency. Most of their roster moves came prior to and during the 2017 NBA Draft. Los Angeles ended up making four selections that night and traded D’Angelo Russell and Timofey Mozgov to the Brooklyn Nets for Brook Lopez prior to it. The Lakers first move in free agency did not come until halfway through July.

The Lakers signed free agent shooting guard, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Caldwell-Pope and the Lakers agreed to a one-year, $18 million deal. In a corresponding move, the Lakers have to waive David Nwaba, who had a non-guaranteed deal.
So, as things stand currently, Jordan Clarkson is the only member of the Lakers backcourt from last season that is with the team. Nick Young opted out of his contract and signed with the Golden State Warriors. Nwaba was claimed by the Chicago Bulls. Tyler Ennis is still a free agent.
The Lakers used two picks in the draft on guards, as Lonzo Ball was selected second and Josh Hart was selected 30th. Despite those draft picks, bringing in a veteran guard would make sense. Another veteran in the front court wouldn’t hurt either.
Without any cap space remaining, the Lakers can use their mid-level exception and veteran minimums to sign players. Here are five players the Lakers could target to fill out the end of their roster.
