The Los Angeles Lakers and free agent point guard, Briante Weber, have agreed to a partially guaranteed contract.

The Los Angeles Lakers looked like they were finished adding players to their roster last week. After signing Vander Blue to a partially guaranteed deal, the Lakers roster sat at 16 players total, including point guard Alex Caruso, who was signed to a two-way deal.

However, it seems as if the Lakers were in fact not done adding players to the roster. Despite having only one two-way deal remaining, the Lakers have signed another player to a partially guaranteed deal.

According to Shams Charania of The Vertical, the Lakers have agreed to a partially guaranteed deal with free agent point guard, Briante Weber. Charania shared the news via his Twitter account.

The Lakers are adding to their roster for training camp, which is expected. However, Weber is someone that could legitimately play himself into consideration for a roster spot.

More from Lakers News

Weber has had some cups of coffee in the NBA since going undrafted in the 2015 NBA Draft. He has played in 27 total games, starting four, the past two seasons with the Miami Heat, Memphis Grizzlies, Golden State Warriors, and Charlotte Hornets. The most extended run he received was with the Grizzlies during the 2015-16 season when they set the record for players played in a single season.

While Weber has yet to find a foothold in the NBA, he has proven that he deserves at least a shot to make a team. Weber has provided some solid production when playing in the NBA Summer League, but he has really shown his ability to play in the G-League.

Weber has played parts of two seasons with the Sioux Falls SkyForce. He took his play to the next level this past season.

In 31 games, Weber averaged 16.5 points on 45.5 percent from the field and 35.6 percent from the three-point line. He added 7.5 rebounds, 7.3 assists, and 3.3 steals per game. Weber was named Player of the Month in January and also received some season-long recognition as well. In addition to the POTM award, Weber was named to the All G-League 2nd Team and All-Defensive 1st Team.

Defense is something that the Lakers could really use, so Weber has a chance to distinguish himself there. It will be an uphill battle for him to make the team, given the number of players already on the roster.

The battle between Tyler Ennis, Blue, and Weber for the point guard spots will be worth watching. Ennis probably has a spot locked down as the mentor for rookie Lonzo Ball. Blue and Weber could be competing head-to-head for the final roster spot in the backcourt.
