The Los Angeles Lakers G-League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers, recently announced a 50-game regular season schedule.

Things will be different this season for the Los Angeles Lakers when it comes to the NBA Development League in 2017. First, the D-League or Development League has been rebranded to the G-League or Gatorade League.

Gatorade is the development leagues major sponsor, and the influx of revenue generated from the partnership with the NBA has paved new paths and increased salaries for players and employees in G-League organizations.

The General Manager for the South Bay Lakers is Nick Mazzella. Mazzella has had great success in recent years with the Lakers Affiliate D-Fenders. The D-Fenders are now rebranded as the South Bay Lakers as of this summer with a brand new logo to go with the name. The South Bay Lakers enter their 11th season in the NBA G-League as the reigning Pacific Division Champions.

Game one for the SB Lakers will be on Saturday, November 4 on the road against the Santa Cruz Warriors (Golden State Affiliate). They return home on Wednesday, November 8th to face the same team in their home opener in the brand new Lakers Practice facility (UCLA Health Training Center in El Segundo).

The Lakers and the SB Lakers both practice in the same facility, but when the SB Lakers play, the practice courts become a game court, and the retractable seats are rolled out for the fans.

Out of the 50 games, 24 of them will be played at home, and 16 games will take place on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday which is ideal for families and professionals trying to get to a game.

Some fun facts about the South Bay Lakers:

  • The NBA G League’s South Bay Lakers, the first franchise in G League history to be owned by an NBA team (Los Angeles Lakers)
  • The Lakers franchise has established itself as a top producer of NBA-ready talent, totaling 26 NBA Call-Ups and developing 19 Lakers assignment players since the inaugural 2006-07 season.
  • Last season, the Lakers returned to the playoffs for the third time in the last four years and produced the league MVP in guard Vander Blue.
  • The Lakers have claimed three division titles and have twice competed in the NBA G League Finals, most recently in 2015-16.

Fans can buy Season ticket packages for the 2017-18 season which will include special offers and incentives which will not be available to the general public. The incentives include Laker’s benefits.

Tickets are so affordable, and the prices start as low as $20 per game ($25 for single game tickets). Of course, court side seats are available for purchase but will be more money. I have had the pleasure of sitting court side and let me tell you, whatever the price, it is well worth it.

Don’t believe the hype that the G-League is a slow game. You will be a true believer once you catch an SB Lakers game court side.
