Los Angeles Lakers second year player Brandon Ingram reveals part of what his offseason workout routine consisted of.

The Los Angeles Lakers have high hopes for Brandon Ingram. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft has a very high ceiling, and the Lakers are hopeful that he can reach it alongside this year’s No. 2 overall pick, Lonzo Ball.

The Lakers are very confident in Ingram. They put their trust into him this offseason. When trade rumors popped up throughout the offseason involving the Lakers, Ingram was someone every team asked for. He was popular among other teams. However, the Lakers wouldn’t budge.

The Lakers would not engage in any trade talks involving Ingram. He was deemed untouchable this offseason. It was a big vote of confidence for Ingram, who struggled mightily during his rookie season.

In 79 games, Ingram averaged 9.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.6 steals and 0.5 blocks in 28.8 minutes per game. His Player Efficiency Rating was especially poor at 8.9 according to Basketball Reference.

Ingram did, however, pick things up after the All-Star break. Post All-Star break, Ingram averaged 13.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.5 blocks per game. That second half surge helped Ingram land on the All-Rookie Second Team.

The Lakers are hoping that the momentum Ingram was creating in the second half of the season will carry over to his sophomore campaign. If the Las Vegas Summer League was any indication, Ingram is in line for a big second-year jump.

Ingram played in only one game in Las Vegas, but he was dominant in that performance. Ingram was unstoppable offensively, as he scored 26 points rather easily. He showed off his mid-range game and got to the rim with ease.

It was the type of performance the Lakers are hoping to see when the regular season rolls around. Ingram is doing what he can to ensure that it happens.

Earlier in the offseason, Ingram was praised for the improvements he was making with his jump shot. While talking with BiPro USA, Ingram revealed what his workout plan for the offseason was.

"“My day starts at the gym,” he said. “This offseason, I’m trying to be the hardest worker on the court and really attack my weaknesses. I have a different mentality, a different focus, coming in every single day trying to be a leader by example as well as vocally.”"

The Lakers have high hopes for Ingram this upcoming season. Not only are they looking for him to improve his play on the court, the Lakers are hoping that he can become a leader for the team as well.

Coming into his second season, Ingram said that he has a different mentality. As a rookie, he was probably more reserved, but as a second-year player the organization is looking relying on, he should be accepting of more leadership.
