Los Angeles Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball will be wearing his signature Big Baller Brand shoes opening night.
Los Angeles Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball has been a polarizing person all summer. Since being selected No. 2 overall in the 2017 NBA Draft by the Lakers, Ball has been a popular topic of discussion.
Landing in Los Angeles has only caused the Ball frenzy to reach deafening levels. A California native is staying home to help get the Lakers back on track. His basketball skill is tantalizing. Magic Johnson has already dubbed him the face of the franchise, and he has done nothing to change that this summer.
The first time we saw him on the court was in the Las Vegas Summer League. Ball was spectacular in Las Vegas, taking home MVP honors. His passing skills were on full display and he showcased the potential that has Lakers fans and management hopeful for a quick turnaround.

The only thing that rivaled the discussion about his play on the court was what he was doing it in. LaVar Ball, Lonzo’s father and found of Big Baller Brand, had Lonzo’s first signature shoe, the ZO2, released.
Ball played the first two games of the Summer League in them but changed after that. We saw Ball wear Nike’s, as he played in the Kobe A.D. and Adidas shoes, playing in the same model he did while at UCLA.
It caused quite a stir among the basketball community. People could not believe that he ditched his signature shoe after only two games and saw his performance improve. However, some insight was provided into that as it seems like it was the plan all along.
Last week, Ball revealed his new signature shoe. Big Baller Brand scrapped the original ZO2 for a new design.
The new design is boasted as the lightest basketball shoe ever made. The revamp is something that has been being tested since July, and partly explains why he stopped wearing the original ones in Summer League.
With so much attention being given to his footwear, Ball was asked about what he will be wearing once the regular season comes along. Once the games begin, Ball will be wearing his revamped ZO2’s.
Ohm Youngmisuk shared the news on ESPN.
"“I’ll definitely be in my shoes the first game and then just go from there.”"
However, Ball did leave open the possibility of wearing other shoes during the season, just as he did in the Las Vegas Summer League.
"“Who knows,” Ball said when asked if he will wear other brands such as Nike and Adidas during his rookie season. “Probably my shoes, though, thinking about it right now.“Just showing people that I have freedom,” Ball said."
During the Summer League, Ball’s shoe choice was a big topic of discussion. Ditching his Big Baller Brand shoes was a surprise, but something that LaVar is fine with. Lonzo said that when you are a big baller, you can wear whatever you want.

Ball’s shoe choice will undoubtedly be a topic of discussion throughout the season, especially if he is wearing something other than his signature shoe. However, the shoes he is wearing doesn’t matter as long as he is producing and helping the Lakers win games.
