The Los Angeles Lakers are adding former forward Antawn Jamison to their front office in a scouting position.
Once you are a part of the Los Angeles Lakers, you are a part of the organization for life. We have seen multiple former players return to the team years later in roles within the organization. Look at the bench, for example.
Head coach Luke Walton and assistant coach Bryan Shaw both played for the team. Legendary point guard Magic Johnson is once again leading the team, this time from the front office as president of basketball operations instead of as the point guard. General manager Rob Pelinka wasn’t directly involved with the Lakers, but he represented one of their greatest players ever in Kobe Bryant.
Now, the Lakers will be adding another former player to the organization. According to Shams Charania of The Vertical, former Lakers forward Antawn Jamison will be joining the organization in a scouting role.
This is not the first time this offseason we have heard about the Lakers bringing back former players in some capacity. A player development role was discussed with Lamar Odom, but he was not ready to accept that role. There have also been discussions about Metta World Peace getting into the coaching ranks with the Lakers.

While neither of those happened, Jamison will be joining the organization. The 41-year old Jamison will work under Johnson and Pelinka in the front office according to assistant general manager, Jesse Buss.
Jamison played one season with the Lakers, suiting up in the purple and gold for the 2012-13 campaign. That season will be remembered for the disastrous acquisitions of Steve Nash and Dwight Howard.
Jamison, however, did play relatively well for the Lakers. In 76 games, six of which were starts, Jamison averaged 9.4 points and 4.8 rebounds in 21.5 minutes per game. That does not show just how great of a player Jamison was during his time in the NBA.
Over his 16-year career, Jamison averaged 18.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.0 steals per game. He was a versatile forward and selected No. 4 overall by the Golden State Warriors in 1998.

Jamison took home the Sixth Man of the Year award for the 2003-04 season with the Dallas Mavericks and was a two-time All-Star. Jamison has been with the Lakers since his playing career ended in 2014, as he has been a TV analyst for the team since then. He will now be going from the sidelines to the suite as a member of the front office.
