Check out our slideshow of the four Los Angeles Lakers position battles to watch during training camp and the preseason.

There are varying opinions about the Los Angeles Lakers. Some fans are fully on the bandwagon and believe that they can challenge for a playoff spot. The Lakers are currently in a four-year postseason drought, the longest in franchise history. On the other side of the spectrum, there are people that believe the streak will run to five years.

What there is no debate over is that the Lakers are heading in the right direction. Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka have done a good job not only improving the roster for this season but improving their outlook in the future as well.

As a result, the Lakers have one of the youngest rosters in the NBA. They have top prospects such as Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball to give the team a hopeful future. This season was not tossed aside, as some veterans such as Brook Lopez, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Andrew Bogut were added for some much-needed leadership and experience.

There are a lot of solid young players on the roster and a good group of veterans to help lead the way. However, there are only so many minutes that head coach Luke Walton can distribute once the regular season rolls around.

Walton would surely love to get everyone minutes, but that just isn’t realistic. Some players will be disappointed that they do not get minutes every night. The goal for the Lakers is still clear, as they want to develop their younger players with an eye towards the future.

That will make for some interesting matchups throughout training camp and the preseason. There are a lot of roles available, as very few players have locked up playing time for the Lakers.

Here are four position battles to watch for throughout training camp and the preseason as the Lakers head towards the 2017-18 regular season.
