The Los Angeles Lakers have waived forward V.J. Beachem and center Stephen Zimmerman.
The Los Angeles Lakers have only 10 days until the regular season begins. From now until then, they will be evaluating the players on the training camp roster, seeing which they want to keep on the 17-man roster for the regular season, and which will be waived.
We saw their first wave of player movement today. The Lakers cut their training camp roster down to 18 players this afternoon.
The Lakers announced that they have waived forward V.J. Beachem and center Stephen Zimmerman.
The Lakers announced the decision on their official Twitter account.
Beachem and Zimmerman both played sparingly this preseason. Beachem, an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame, played with the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Las Vegas Summer League before joining the Lakers for training camp.

Beachem appeared in only one game, playing four minutes on October 4th against the Denver Nuggets. He scored two points with one assist. He is likely ticketed for a trip to the South Bay Lakers, the NBA G-League affiliate for the Lakers. Beachem is a worthwhile prospect for the Lakers to develop, as he possesses a skill set that could develop into a 3-and-D player.
Zimmerman was selected in the second round 2016 NBA Draft by the Orlando Magic. He appeared in 19 games as a rookie but was waived right before free agency this summer.
Zimmerman played with the Orlando Magic in the Orlando Summer League and the Milwaukee Bucks in the Las Vegas Summer League. The Lakers signed him to their roster on August 9th but was unable to build much on his Summer League performances.
Zimmerman appeared in only one game with the Lakers in the preseason. Like Beachem, he appeared only against the Denver Nuggets on October 4th. Zimmerman scored two points with one rebound and one assist in three minutes.
