Los Angeles Lakers lose thriller to Golden State Warriors

The Los Angeles Lakers lost a thrilling game to the Golden State Warriors at the STAPLES Center on Monday night.

It was an emotional night for the Los Angeles Lakers at the STAPLES Center on Monday Night. Kobe Bryant had his No. 8 and No. 24 jerseys retired and raised to the rafters. The Lakers wanted to get the win on such a special night and gave it their all against the reigning champion Golden State Warriors.

Unfortunately for the Lakers, they came up short once again. For the second time in as many meetings against the Warriors, the Lakers fell in overtime. In the first meeting, it was Stephen Curry that killed them in the extra period. This time, it was Kevin Durant.

Durant scored 12 of his 36 points in overtime, including the game-winning basket with 6.4 seconds remaining in the game. Durant didn’t have a great shooting night, going 10-of-29 from the field, but got the job done when it mattered most. He also added 11 rebounds, eight assists, one steal and three blocks.

Klay Thompson also struggled with his shot, making 6-of-24 from the field. The Lakers did an excellent job of making things difficult for Durant and Thompson, but couldn’t finish possessions.

A big reason that the Lakers lost the game was that of their inability to rebound the ball. Golden State outrebounded Los Angeles 61-45, grabbing 15 offensive rebounds. The Warriors shot only 40.2 percent from the field and 32.4 percent from the 3-point line, yet came away victorious.

Brandon Ingram didn’t set another career high against the Warriors, but had a strong game nonetheless. He was knocked out of the game after taking a tough fall in the third quarter, but carried the team in the fourth quarter to help force overtime.

Ingram scored 12 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter, including the game-tying basket with 27 seconds remaining in the game. He also added six rebounds, five assists, two steals and two blocks.

In overtime, Lonzo Ball took over the scoring load. Ball scored seven of the final 12 points of the game for the Lakers. He was close to making it nine out of 14 and getting the team a win, but David West blocked his shot at the rim in the closing seconds of the game.

For the game, Ball scored 16 points, going 6-of-12 from the field and 3-of-6 from the 3-point line. In addition tot he 16 points, Ball added six rebounds, six assists, one steal and two blocks.

The leading scorer for the Lakers tonight was Kyle Kuzma, who poured in 25 points.

The Lakers record drops to 10-18 on the season. Things won’t get any easier, as the Lakers head back on the road for a game Wednesday night. The Lakers will be paying a visit to the Western Conference-leading Houston Rockets that night.
