General Manager Rob Pelinka announced today that South Bay Lakers forward Travis Wear just signed a 10-day Los Angeles Lakers contract. Wear says he’s living a dream come true.
The Los Angeles Lakers made a dream come true recently. It’s one of those days. A day where someone you know and has cared about gets to live their dream, something I do each time I cover the professional sports and especially the South Bay Lakers.
When I heard that Travis Wear signed a 10-day with the Lakers, I was ecstatic. Not only was the Lakers going to get a big-time three-point shooter, but they are also going to get one of the most intense and determined players I have ever seen play the game.
Wear takes every play, every shot, every minute of a game whether on or off the bench seriously. Make it or break it, he will give his coach everything he’s got.
I first interviewed Wear during last seasons D-Fenders media day. However, I have been paying attention to his career since he stepped foot on the court at Pauley Pavillion.

I remember Pac-12 games where he and his brother, David Wear, were murdering their opponents in the paint both on offense and defense. Travis hasn’t let up since.
Wear has played in the NBA before; he played for the New York Knicks. He also played abroad in Spain and is a returning member of the South Bay Lakers squad. Wear has worked really hard to better his game, and it is obvious when watching him play.
Recently, Wear was selected to play on the USA FIBA team, which he not only enjoyed but took great pride in. South Bay head coach Coby Karl expressed his pride as well a couple of weeks ago postgame when he rested Wear in the fourth quarter after he made seven three-pointers.
Karl said it was because he didn’t want to risk injury for the big man with his USA Basketball games coming up.
Wear is averaging 16.7 points per game playing in 33 G-League games this season, making 41.9 percent of his 3-point attempts.
You should remember Wear from the 2017 Lakers NBA Summer League Championship team who played in Las Vegas. He played some important minutes and filled in when players were injured. He will be a great addition to the Lakers coming up here as Josh Hart is out with a fractured hand.
Ryan Young got a chance to catch up with the newest Laker to get his thoughts. “It’s a dream come true,” Wear said.
Wear will wear No. 21, and he grew up in Huntington Beach as a huge Lakers fan along with his dad.
Here’s one of our interviews with Wear after one of his many big games.

Wear has started in 29 games for South Bay. He will probably come off the bench with the Lakers, but don’t let that distract you from the fact that he will play all of his minutes with Alex Caruso and Thomas Bryants type of intensity. Travis has earned this chance we know you won’t be disappointed. The Lake Show Life staff wish him the best of everything and congratulate Travis on living his dream as he helps us do every day.
