The young Los Angeles Lakers are looking good, but they are not close to their potential ceiling.

The Los Angeles Lakers have won 18 of their last 27 games. If it weren’t for a bad stretch earlier in the season, they would absolutely be a playoff team in the Western Conference. With such a young team finding this much success, they should be looking to build a dynasty starring several players they drafted themselves.

Well, finally we have a problem that’s a GOOD problem to have…decisions to make. This team has totally come together. As noted above, if it weren’t for that bad stretch they’d be in the mix for a playoff spot.

We’ve been building this for YEARS. Don’t mess it up now!

Julius Randle, first of all, we have got to keep him. He just gets better and better. He’s also the last remaining player on the Lakers who played alongside Kobe Bryant. That means something to me. However, he’s playing so well that that’s even more important.

Isaiah Thomas fell in our laps, an MVP candidate less than a year ago. And Brook Lopez. The spacing he provides has been crucial. This team is SO YOUNG that they can build a dynasty. Some of the core will still be in their primes a decade from now, and they’ve won 18 of their last 27, with their highest paid player not playing a single second.

The LeBron James idea is intriguing, but they have Randle, Brandon Ingram, and Kyle Kuzma as young, extremely promising forwards. This squad isn’t even close to their ceiling! We’re talking about a DYNASTY with a bunch of young talented players, or, a couple years of an aging LeBron.

Re-sign Randle. First priority. Re-sign Isaiah Thomas. Stretch Deng’s contract and use the cap space for ONE star player. The current Lakers have FIGURED IT OUT. Don’t gut the team! Next year, I hope, should look something like this.

1. Lonzo Ball/Isaiah Thomas
2. Paul George
3. Brandon Ingram
4. Julius Randle
5. A decent Center who can drain 3’s.

DeMarcus Cousins is still an option too, though, he’s recovering from a torn Achilles. If we could find a way to keep Lopez, that would be just fine as he fits right in and has been part of their recent success. Just PLEASE don’t gut this team.

Even if they strike out in free agency again, the roster as currently constructed has made leaps and bounds and will be competitive next season. I don’t think we have to worry about ping-pong balls for a while, Laker Nation!
