The South Bay Lakers had a very good season and two of the key players on the team received recognition for their great seasons.

It was a very successful season for the South Bay Lakers, as some of the young players in the Los Angeles Lakers’ organization were able to grow.

One of the key players for the South Bay Lakers this season was Thomas Bryant. In the 2017 NBA Draft, Bryant might have been somewhat of the forgotten pick by the Lakers. In the first round, the Lakers were able to select Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, and Josh Hart. However, they also were able to select Bryant later on in the second round.

As a young big man, Bryant was a raw talent coming out of Indiana, but the Lakers liked his potential. With South Bay, Bryant was able to have a great first season in the G-League. Bryant was able to average 19.7 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.5 blocks per game.

The strong season from Bryant resulted in him being selected to the All-NBA G League Rookie Team. Also, he was named to the All-NBA G League First Team.

In addition to Bryant receiving some accolades, so did his teammate Alex Caruso. Caruso was on a two-way deal this season, as he didn’t play as much in South Bay due to the Lakers needing him on the main roster. With injuries to Lonzo Ball this season, Caruso saw a lot of time in the NBA and performed fairly well.

Next: Analyzing goals from start of the season

Caruso was very good in South Bay, as he was named to the All-NBA G League Second Team. While Bryant will certainly be on the team next season, Caruso isn’t under contract next season. For Bryant, he could certainly see more time with the Lakers next season, as they might need to have him on the main roster for depth next season.
