For both Lonzo Ball and Kyle Kuzma, bringing a championship to the Los Angeles Lakers is something that drives them.

For the Los Angeles Lakers, the 2017 NBA Draft might go down in history as being one of the best in the history of the franchise. With three picks in the first round, the Lakers were able to get three players that appear like they will have a big impact on the franchise.

With the second overall pick, the Lakers selected point guard Lonzo Ball. As a high draft pick, Ball is expected to be an All-Star caliber player. Where the Lakers really hit gold was late in the first round, as they were able to select Kyle Kuzma with the 27th overall pick and Josh Hart with the 30th overall pick.

Generally, players taken late in the first round don’t amount to much more than bench players in the NBA. However, Kuzma looks like he has star potential, and Hart played really well in the starting lineup for the Lakers. Getting both players this late in the draft certainly helped speed along their rebuild.

Recently Ball spoke about how he and Kuzma first began to realize that they had similar goals coming into the NBA. Here’s what he said to Mike Trudell with text via Corey Hansford of LakersNation.com.

"“Just getting championships. That’s what it’s always been about for me, winning, and him as well. He wants to be MVP, like anybody would want to be MVP, but our common goal is to win a championship. We know we gotta put in work and stay together to do that. So, that’s how everything started.”"

For the Lakers franchise, winning championships is what it is all about. While the team has struggled recently, they are certainly heading in the right direction with an improved year in the 2017-18 season.

Despite being young players, Ball and Kuzma appear to be quite mature in terms of working hard and knowing what the ultimate goal is. With both players having strong rookie seasons, they have built a good bond and are focused on getting better next season. While a championship might still be a few years away, the Lakers are certainly building a great young core to try and reach the finals once again.
