Lakers Rumors: Jud Buechler receiving interest from New York Knicks
Recent Los Angeles Lakers rumors involve assistant coach Jud Buechler, who looks like he could be leaving for the New York Knicks.
Plenty of recent Los Angeles Lakers rumors have revolved around their offseason plans. The 2018 NBA Draft is about a month away so Lakers rumors involving draft prospects have been running rampant. Lakers rumors will pick up even more once free agency is upon us as Los Angeles will look to land two max free agents.
Recent Lakers rumors involve their coaching staff, namely assistant coach, Jud Buechler. Buechler has been an assistant with the Lakers since Luke Walton took over as head coach in 2016. However, his tenure with the Lakers could be coming to an end.
According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, Buechler could be on his way to the New York Knicks. The Knicks hired David Fizdale earlier this offseason to replace Jeff Hornacek and he is in the process of filling out his staff. Buechler is reportedly one person the organization has in their sights to round out the staff.
In addition to Buechler, Begley mentions Memphis Grizzlies assistant Keith Smart as someone else joining the staff.
"The Knicks are talking seriously with Lakers assistant Jud Buechler about joining new head coach David Fizdale’s staff as an assistant, per ESPN sources. Buechler has coached as an assistant under Luke Walton with the Lakers, where he worked in player development. A 12-year veteran, Buechler won three titles as a Chicago Bull for teams coached by ex-Knicks president Phil Jackson. Memphis assistant Keith Smart is also expected to be a top assistant under Fizdale."
There were also rumors that Nick Van Exel would be joining the Knicks staff, but he shot those down on Twitter.

The only holdover that is expected to survive the coaching change, according to Begley, with the Knicks is Howard Eisley. Everyone else from Hornacek’s staff is expected to move on elsewhere.
Buechler looks like he will be one of the people added to the staff under Fizdale. He would be a good addition to the Knicks staff.
As Begley pointed out, he worked in player development for the Lakers. Anyone who has watched the Lakers in recent seasons would see that their younger players are coming along nicely. That is something that the Knicks are hoping to see with their youngsters.
New York has recently selected lottery picks in Frank Ntilikina, Trey Burke, Emmanuel Mudiay and Kristaps Porzingis on the roster. They will be adding another one come June in the 2018 NBA Draft, as they own the No. 9 overall pick. Getting those youngsters to reach their ceiling and develop will help immensely as the Knicks look to climb out of their self-inflicted hole.
