Recent Lakers rumors are that the controversy in Philadelphia with Bryan Colangelo might be hurting a competitor in free agency.
With the offseason getting closer, recent Lakers rumors have been heating up about what the chances are for them landing marquee free agents. Luring superstars away from there current teams is no easy feat and the Lakers are going to be trying to lure some of the biggest fish.
While the Lakers have cap space available to pursue stars, they aren’t the only team that will be an appealing destination this summer. Like the Lakers, the Philadelphia 76ers have cap space and a great young core of talent.
This season, led by Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid, the 76ers were able to not only make the playoffs, but advance a round. Considering how young they are, this was truly a great feat and they should be an appealing destination for elite free agents.
However, the organization recently has gone under fire, as their President of Basketball Operations, Bryan Colangelo, has had to deal with some drama about burner accounts on Twitter.
Recently, Adrian Wojnarowski and Zack Lowe of ESPN.com talked about what kind of impact this could have on the team. Here’s what they had to say.
"Ownership fears that Colangelo’s credibility inside and outside the organization may be too badly damaged to continue his job, especially within a month of a July free-agency period when the Sixers plan to pursue superstars such as LeBron James and Paul George to partner with young stars Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons."
When it comes to recruiting some of the best players in the league, the situation surrounding Colangelo could certainly have an impact on the 76ers. As of now, no decision has been made by the organization, but his job could certainly be in jeopardy.
For the Lakers, their front office is extremely strong right now with Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka running the show. Both have done an excellent job so far, and them being a steady force in the front office could be very beneficial for the Lakers.

As a true contender to sign Paul George and LeBron James this offseason, the situation with the 76ers is a good thing for the Lakers. With a little over a month before free agency starts, we will have to see what ends up happening with the 76ers and Colangelo before then.
