Los Angeles Lakers point guard Lonzo Ball has suffered a torn meniscus.

Los Angeles Lakers point guard Lonzo Ball was entering an important offseason. With the team looking to make major changes on the roster, Ball was looking to improve as well.

Ball has been hitting the gym, working out and getting stronger. Ball showed off his progress in an Instagram post earlier this month. However, all the work Ball has been putting in this offseason will be put on hold.

According to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports, Ball has a torn meniscus in his left knee. Charania adds that Ball is expected to be ready for training camp, which is positive news for everyone involved.

The news was shared via his Twitter account.

While it is encouraging that Ball should be back for training camp, this is a little troubling. His left knee is the same knee that he had a PRP injection a few months ago. Earlier this month, Ball said that the knee was feeling good as he got back on the court just over two weeks ago. Now, he will once again be sidelined.

There have not yet been a report of when the injury occurred, or if surgery will be needed or has already been done. However, Ball did say he was back to 100 percent and healthy earlier this month when talking to Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN.

Given that timetable, an educated guess would be that Ball injured the knee sometime in the last 2-3 weeks.

While it was already decided that Ball would not be participating in the Las Vegas Summer League this year, this isn’t great timing for an injury. Ball is in the midst of a very important offseason as he looks to improve upon his underwhelming shooting numbers as a rookie. Also, the work he was putting in to add strength and size to improve his durability is being put on the backburner as well.

After being healthy throughout his time at UCLA, Ball has struggled with injuries with the Lakers. He missed 30 games in his rookie season after struggling with injuries during summer league and preseason.

Ball’s offseason started with an injury and now it looks like it will end with one also. Getting healthy should be Ball’s No. 1 concern the remainder of the season. Ball is an important part of the Lakers rebuild, but he has to be on the court to help the team.
