Kobe Bryant is helping breed a new generation of people and players that embrace the Mamba Mentality.

With Kobe Bryant, I guess the “Mamba Mentality is not all about the shoes. Last year Nike and Bryant released a post-retirement shoe called “Mamba Mentality”. After dropping 60 in his final game as with the Los Angeles Lakers, Kobe Bryant left a closing call that probably provided a marketing boost to sell a shoe or two.

But outside of something that is cool to say in a conversation concerning basketball…

What in the world is “Mamba Mentality”?

Is it a phrase to Kobe Bryant being the last link to greatness for the Lakers franchise before LeBron James decided to take his talents out west?

Is it Nike being Nike marketing a shoe that coincidentally was released August 24 of his retirement year, which linked his jersey numbers 8 and 24? (Boy that shoe company can sell ice to an igloo…GENIUS!)

Well let Kobe Bryant tell it…courtesy of Silver Screen and Roll of SB Nation

"“Mamba mentality is a constant quest to find answers. It’s that infinite curiosity to want to be better, to figure things out. Mamba mentality is you’re going, you’re competing, you’re not worried about the end result. You’re not worried about what people may say. You’re not worried about disappointing others. You’re not worried about any of that, you’re just focused on being in the moment. That’s what mamba mentality truly is”, Kobe explains."

Let’s fast forward to the future. Kobe Bryant might be on the path to making billions of dollars in marketing this cutting edge sports psychology. Let’s be clear here. If he does, you heard it here from Ronald Agers on Lake Show Life first.

First ESPN reaches out to him in a platform on ESPN Plus called Detail that called for 10 episodes breaking down the nuances of NBA players, showing details to make the game more efficient.

Leave it to social media to start throwing stones at a glass house…

The show had its own running joke on Twitter called the “Kobe curse”, meaning that if Kobe featured a certain player on his show, the player’s team would lose the very next game. Even LeBron James and Kevin Durant were used as evidence to the conspiracy theory before the NBA Finals.

What was Kobe Bryant’s “Mamba Mentality” statement to the jokes…

Care to elaborate further Black Mamba?…courtesy of the Washington Post, via the Chicago Tribune.

"“It’s just not for them,” Bryant told the Washington Post back in June. “They have simple minds. The show is not for simple minded people, the people that do that sort of stuff. They’ve got to grow up. We’re looking at this show from a deeper level.”"

All together now…DAAAAAAANNNNNNGGGGG! Mic drop…Preach! Brother Mamba! Preach!

"“Like I said in the open, this show is not meant to entertain,” Bryant added. “I give you that disclaimer. This show is for athletes, man. It’s for people that want to be serious athletes, people that want to be serious basketball players. It’s for them. The majority of people will pick up on that, will understand it, will see areas that they can improve in and learn from, and athletes will as well, and others will just continue to be simple minded.”"

It seems that the “Mamba mentality” has transcended to other sports…

Richard Sherman has reaped the benefits of Kobe Bryant and his sports philosophy. It was laid out to him with one phone call with a pointed question back in 2017…courtesy of ESPN

It was so “Mamba” like…

More from Lake Show Life

"“When I first called to check on him I said, ‘Are you all right, I want to make sure you are not being a baby about it?'”"

Now we have to understand that this is Richard Sherman, the former star of the most devastating defense at the time, the Legion of Boom, the revered defense of the Seattle Seahawks. A notorious trash talker that has gotten in the minds of many an NFL wide receiver. Plus he is brash enough to be outspoken on many social subjects as well. Yeah, that dude.

Then we have to understand that this conversation was had about 24 hours AFTER he suffered a right Achilles tendon rupture on the last play as a Seattle Seahawk.

Who better to mentor Sherman than Kobe Bryant? Bryant suffered the same injury back in 2013, and Sherman described Bryant as “essential”…

"“He and I had a previous relationship and talked and texted all the time,” Sherman said. “So he gave me some pointers and things I needed to do early on in the process to make sure that I expedited the healing process and I was more proactive than reactive. I think that was one of the big things.”"

The Mamba mentality is starting to cross over (forgive the pun here folks!) from the NBA to the WNBA…

Candace Parker, the star forward of the Los Angeles Sparks is part of the “Mamba Mentality” mentorship program.

Ms. Parker is a two-time MVP and considered one of the WNBA’s best. Coming off a season that had her finish as the All-WNBA second team, she was in the gym with other players working on her game.

This is what Kobe Bryant stated before…this is not for simple minded people. This is for athletes that want to get better.

…and pass it on to generations to come…

Now, are you still wondering why Jeanie Buss wants Kobe Bryant to be more involved with the future of the Lakers?

Get used to this world. The “Mamba Mentality” will be the next level of sports psychology in the future.
