Los Angeles Lakers: Tyson Chandler a fan of Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram

Tyson Chandler appreciates what Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram bring to the table defensively for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Los Angeles Lakers center Tyson Chandler has not been with the purple and gold too long. Be that as it may, the seasoned veteran has made quite an impression with Los Angeles thus far.

The 2011 NBA champion’s primary impact has occurred on defense. In his first three games with the Lakers, Chandler is averaging 8.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per contest.

In terms of the latter statistic, Chandler got a huge block in Sunday night’s win versus Atlanta.

In the closing seconds of the game, Trae Young managed to drive his way into the paint and put up a floater that would have given the Hawks the victory. However, the 18-year professional swooped in and rejected Young’s shot at the buzzer, securing a Lakers’ win.

Moments like that have truly turned around the squad’s season and have provided them with a renewed sense of hope. Certainly, Chandler has been a welcome addition for the Lakers.

The former Sun has helped the Lakers in areas they were really struggling in to begin the season. Among the worst in defensive efficiency to start the year, Chandler’s presence alone has helped the Lakers get back on track.

While that is true, the big man believes he does not deserve all the credit for the Lakers’ miniature resurgence.

Via ClutchPoints contributor Ashish Mathur, Chandler recently praised the defensive efforts of Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram.

Per what Mathur transcribed, another member of ClutchPoints, Ryan Ward, shared Chandler’s thoughts on the Lakers’ young guns.

The Lakers’ backup center utilized a key word when discussing the two ballers: “length.” Indeed, when Lonzo and Brandon are analyzed, it is hard to not think about that attribute they both possess.

For a point guard, Ball’s height certainly gives him an advantage over most other playmakers. Therefore, Ball’s ability to use that trait and affect passing lanes makes him a dangerous threat on “D.”

In terms of Ingram, it is impossible to not notice his long arms. Part of what makes the small forward such a pest on defense is just trying to figure out how to get a clean shot over him. His arms tend to be very active on the defensive side of the ball, so it is nice to see that Chandler recognizes this.

Granted the Lakers still have work to do defensively, Chandler’s presence has been a blessing. Without him aboard, there is a very good chance the Lakers would occupy a losing record.

Of course, Chandler cannot always do all the heavy lifting, so to speak. The L.A. Lakers will not only demand defensive contributions from him, B.I., and Zo, but from everyone. It is cliché and perhaps overstated in the realm of sports, but defense is what wins championships.
