Could Kemba Walker be a viable player to team up with Lebron James to bring the Los Angeles Lakers back to the playoffs?

The Los Angeles Lakers have big hopes in free agency this summer. Could Kemba Walker be someone the team targets?

The Charlotte Hornets star is set to become a free agent in the offseason and could be leaving Charlotte. Of course, the hype is surrounding a potential Kyrie Irving and LeBron James reunion, but we have to remember Kyrie said back in October that he plans on re-signing with the Boston Celtics.

Obviously, he could decide to change his mind considering the way things have played out this season. At this point it is still unknown what Kyrie will do but; we will most likely have to wait till July 1st. Anyways, If the Lakers miss out on Kyrie, Kemba Walker could be the right player to go after.

Kemba Walker’s contract is up and the time for him to sign a new deal or join a new team is just around the corner.

Charlotte just missed the playoffs this season, but, they are not a team that can contend for a title. The Lakers are just one max player away from being a contender. Especially if Golden State loses Klay Thompson or Kevin Durant. The question is, which player will the Lakers focus on trying to land in the offseason?

At 28 years old (29 next month) the three-time All-Star is coming off his best season statistically, averaging 25.6 points per game, 4.4 rebounds per game, and 5.9 assists per game. He elevated his scoring average by 3.1 points from last season to average his career best.

Scoring is one of Walker’s best traits. He is a crafty guard who can get to the rim at will and can also hit defenders with one of the nastiest crossovers in the league. In his best game of the season, he scored a whopping 60 points against the Philadelphia 76ers, which was a new career high.

Since the 2015-16 NBA season, Kemba has missed just six games. This shows his durability, which is similar to LeBron James until this past season when he suffered the groin injury.

Bringing in Kemba would give the Lakers that much needed consistent second scorer to help pace the team with LeBron. Also, Lonzo Ball could still run the point with Kemba in the backcourt.

Lonzo is a solid defender and on the offensive side, he has great court vision. Kemba would still be able to play his normal style of play and get open looks because Lonzo is a past first point guard. The two of them would gel nicely in the backcourt.
