Recent Lakers rumors are that the brass for Los Angeles has been very thorough interviewing head coaches.
There have been plenty of Lakers rumors surrounding their head coaching vacancy of late. As the Lakers go through the interview process of potential head coaching candidates, we are starting to see who has some say for the Lakers now.
With Magic Johnson surprisingly resigning before the last game of the season, the Lakers were left without a president of basketball operations. This is a fairly important role for a franchise, and one that the Lakers haven’t filled.
Since the Lakers have been moving forward with their head coaching search rather than a search for Johnson’s replacement, it’s safe to assume that role won’t be filled anytime soon. With the Lakers lacking experience in their front office now, many have been concerned about how the search for a new head coach would go. However, it appears like the people that Jeanie Buss has entrusted in this process have been doing a good job.
According to Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times, the Lakers’ brass has been very thorough in the interview process.
"The last two people the Lakers interviewed for their head-coaching vacancy — Philadelphia 76ers assistant coach Monty Williams on Thursday and former Cleveland Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue on Wednesday — were impressed by how thorough the Lakers’ contingent was during their conversations with both men, according to people familiar with the talks."
Seeing the Lakers getting good reviews for how they are handling the interview process is certainly good news. Finding a new head coach is no easy task, and the Lakers need to find someone who can help snap this playoff drought.
While it has been reported that no offers have been made yet to either Monty Williams or Tyronn Lue, it looks like those two men are the front-runners. Seeing the reports of both Lue and Monty being impressed with the brass of the Lakers would likely indicate that they would be interested in the job should it become available to them.
With both Williams and Lue having two interviews, it will be interesting to see if the Lakers look to meet once again or if they are now just going over making a final decision. Furthermore, it is encouraging to see that the interview process seems to be going well.
