It has been a while since the Los Angeles Lakers have found success on the court, but they could turn things around in a big way this offseason.

It’s been what seems like an eternity since we have heard any “official” word from the powers that be within the Los Angeles Lakers about much of anything outside the head coaching search.

Magic Johnson quit, Luke Walton left amid conflicting reports, and then more or less nothing one way or another. It seems like Rob Pelinka is in charge, at least for the moment, but nothing has been clearly established as far as any kind of “official” word on that either. He hasn’t quit or been fired, that is pretty much what we seem to know.

Stories have run rampant over the state of the team, in all kinds of directions, but the only real basis for any of it is that there is none. We are all in a holding pattern which has gone on way too long to be holding our breath, we would be dead. Every day I wake up and read all media available on the Lakers, eager to find out “what’s going on.”

In the course of these past few weeks I, probably along with many of the hardcore fan base, have gone through a gauntlet of emotions over where we are, where we wish we were and where we wanna be.

Depending on what you read, things are either in a state of total chaos or, well….not.  From a lifetime of being in the media, on both sides of the pen, trust me when I tell you to not believe everything you see in print. Just because it is published does not mean it is fact. More times than not it’s an opinion, and opinions are always slanted to the view of the writer. I know my opinions are totally biased, I am a fan and want my team to rule.

So, how do we pull ourselves out of this whatever it is, funk maybe? First off, we gotta release the anger that has swept over us with the last half of the season. I was so upset when they traded Ivica Zubac I took off my Lakers t-shirt and was gonna toss it, but couldn’t.

And there it is. I couldn’t. I liked Zubbie, but I am not going to bail on my team because I did not agree with a decision. In my heart, I am going to root for them to succeed, no matter how many moves they make I don’t agree with.  I am pretty sure the ones making the decisions know more than I do, at least I sure hope so.

So, I was angry when the season ended and mired in doom and gloom. Over a little time, reason crept back into my thoughts and I realized that things are not as bad as maybe I thought.

I love Magic Johnson, my favorite Laker ever, but it is pretty clear he was not the best guy for President of the team. So, it’s best he is not. yeah, I wanna know who it will be or how that is all gonna play out, I think we all do. Whatever happens, we want the best. We want to score in the draft, then make the best decision as to keeping the player or making a trade. We want a killer free agent, or two.

Bottom line is we want to get back to being the Lakers and in contention for a title. Say what you will about LeBron James, the fact is he is still one of the best players in the game. There are a lot of questions that need to be addressed.

I, for one, am hoping it goes right and, at least at this writing, am taking the high road. We are going to have a killer summer and come back in the fall with a team that we all can get behind.

I was loving the team before LBJ went down and the whole thing went the wrong way. Could we have won the title? Probably not, but it sure was fun and entertaining watching the games. And who knows, we could have taken the momentum from that Christmas Day game and run on it.

I am ready to give the team the benefit of the doubt and roll with the opinion that we are going to rise and rise quickly.
