Los Angeles Lakers: Should team trade the No. 4 pick in 2019 NBA Draft
The Los Angeles Lakers landed the No. 4 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft at the NBA Draft Lottery, opening up a number of options.
The Los Angeles Lakers will get the 4th overall pick in the NBA draft. The question is, will they draft a player, or trade the draft pick?
The New Orleans Pelicans secured the 1st pick in the NBA draft, meaning they will likely draft Zion Williamson. Ja Morant will likely follow, so the Lakers will probably trade the pick. But what players will the Lakers need to trade along with the draft pick, to land a superstar, say, Anthony Davis?
The Lakers will need to involve players from the young core, and that’s obvious. But, which players should the Lakers look to involve in the Anthony Davis trade, and which players should the Lakers look to keep?
The Lakers should do everything possible to keep Brandon Ingram. The players that the Lakers should look to trade are Kyle Kuzma and Josh Hart. That’s no knock on either of them, and that won’t be enough to get Anthony Davis.
They will need to give up Lonzo Ball along with Kuzma, Hart, and the fourth pick in the NBA draft. Possibly future picks included, and another young talent, like Johnathan Williams, Isaac Bonga, or Alex Caruso.

The question is, should they trade all those players if the Pelicans are willing to trade Anthony Davis? Yes, the Lakers should make that trade, especially if they can keep Brandon Ingram.
They are in win-now mode with LeBron James going into the second year of his four year contract. The Lakers must act fast. Just imagine if the Lakers sign Kyrie Irving or Kemba Walker in the offseason, and trade for Anthony Davis, forming a Big 3 of LeBron-Davis-Kyrie or LeBron-Davis-Kemba, along with Brandon Ingram. That will be a scary team to match up against in the playoffs.
If the Pelicans trade Anthony Davis to the Lakers, they will not only have the first pick in the draft, they will also have the fourth pick, along with a couple of promising players in Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart, and Kyle Kuzma.
This will be a good trade for the Pelicans as well. They will get a young point guard in Lonzo Ball to pair up with Jrue Holiday, which will be a tremendous defensive backcourt with Kyle Kuzma and likely Zion Williamson in the frontcourt. Kuzma needs work on his defense, and he needs to get quicker, but that could be a duo to look out for in the future.
Off the bench, they would have Josh Hart, who’s a 3-and-D player, so they could build for the future, and build around Zion Williamson and Jrue Holiday. They would have a very promising future.
But for the Lakers, they are in win-now mode. The Lakers should look to trade for Anthony Davis while trying not to give up Brandon Ingram and sign Kemba Walker or Kyrie Irving in the offseason.
That will not only be a playoff contending team but, that will be an automatic finals contender team. LeBron James will lead the Lakers to their seventeenth championship if they can trade for Anthony Davis, and sign Kyrie Irving or Kemba Walker in free agency.
