3. He’s a good three point shooter

Clearly, this is a department the Lakers need lots of help in. They finished next-to-last in 3-point shooting percentage this season, and several players on the team regressed in their accuracy from downtown compared to last season.

Adding a guy like Ross, who has been consistently solid or good from downtown, would go a long way in rectifying their awful 3-point shooting.

He has a career 37.4 percent shooting percentage from beyond the arc. This season, he made 38.3 percent of his three-ball attempts.

In addition, he isn’t just a good catch-and-shoot player. He can get hot and, at times, shoot his team into a win or at least help them overcome a deficit and give them a chance to win.

For example, on March 22 his Orlando Magic was down by 17 at home to the Memphis Grizzlies. Ross came in and scored 31 points while hitting eight of his 12 3-point attempts to spur them on to a 123-119 win.

In his seven seasons in the NBA, Ross has never played with a legit superstar like LeBron James who can draw multiple defenders and create open looks for him. That alone may help increase his efficiency a bit if he were to become a Laker next season.

In his introductory press conference, new Lakers head coach Frank Vogel said that his offensive philosophy has changed in the last couple years and that he wants the 3-point shot to open things up for teammates to attack the rim. Ross could fit the bill in that sense.
