Anything less than a championship level team being built by the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason is unacceptable.

I am just gonna come right out and say what I am pretty sure the overwhelming majority of Los Angeles Lakers fans are thinking right now. “We want, deserve and expect a championship caliber team on the floor to start this next season. That was the plan, that is what was promised, and we really are not ready to accept anything less.

Tell me if I am wrong, but I’m not. I am right and in my mind, that should still be the plan, the only plan, period.

Yes, things have exploded in the ivory tower and the front office shows no sign of having itself in any kind of real order. I see no positive signs that the people in place to pull off the major moves that need to be pulled off this summer have the ability or clout to get it done, yet nothing is being done to fix the situation.

In fact, as absolutely insane as it may sound, they seem to think it’s all good. No problems at all.

So, here is the issue in a nutshell. The fanbase is in turmoil at the exact time that everybody should be getting all excited and gearing up for the construction of the team that we have been waiting for since the last time we had a real serious team on the floor.

I think the last time we really had any legitimate hope at doing anything special was ended when Kobe Bryant went down with the Achilles tear. Since then, it’s been all about rebuilding and new talent and young core and blah blah blah. This year was and is supposed to be the end of all that and putting a contender on the floor.

I, for one, am sick and tired of all this lame “Lakers are going to have to settle for scraps” jargon. Settle for scraps? Are you kidding me? This is the Los Angeles Lakers here kids. We do not settle for scraps. We win championships.

I don’t wanna hear about what third-tier cast offs that we might be lucky to sign. I don’t want to hear so and so doesn’t want to play here. I don’t want to hear who doesn’t want to get involved in the current chaos, who doesn’t want to play with LeBron James, or any of that kind of garbage.

If any of this stuff is even close to being true, and it might be, then it’s up to the powers that be to fix it and fix it right now. What happens this summer is going to determine the direction of this team for years to come. And along with it, I have a strong feeling that we are at a crossroads with the loyal fanbase.

Not everybody is as hardcore of a “love the Lakers to the bitter end” zealot as I am, and maybe some of you are. I hear people telling me the team is done and under the current leadership will never come back. I hear that way more than I want to be hearing it these days. And the fact is, I do not want to hear that at all.

So, there it is, the pressure is on to fix this. And probably the only way to fix this is to blow all the non-believers out of the water and actually deliver on the plan.

Championship level team. Nothing less. No settling for scraps. No “in another year or two.” No more blundering. Either deliver or get out of the way and get somebody who can. One good hire would go a long way at the moment. And would somebody please put a sock in Magic.
