Marques Bolden has to channel his “Mitchell Robinson” and know his role

Marques Bolden probably crumbled under the pressure of being a blue chip prospect coming into Duke. Some players can’t handle that pressure and that is fine if they can find other ways to help their team and keep their confidence up.

As a top-level prospect coming into a program, they are to develop into a number one option on the offensive end. Marques Bolden was not that guy.

The one thing that Marques Bolden can do is be the dirty work guy for a team while scoring at times off of the attention that the stars command. This is how Bolden can be effective on the offensive end.

Marques Bolden got the slam dunk here by running to the rim after his teammate Cam Reddish drew the double team by driving to the basket. This is an ideal situation for Bolden if he comes to the Lakers.

He can possibly do what Ivica Zubac did this past season before he got traded to the Clippers. When LeBron James, Brandon Ingram or Lonzo Ball attacks the paint and draws the defense, Bolden can go to the front of the rim and wait for the pass.

Or he can be the energy guy that crashes the glass.

Cam Reddish again shoots the jumper in the corner. With Zion Williamson on the wing, it opens up the lane. Marques Bolden runs through the lane and dunks on somebody.

The NBA is looking for the next Mitchell Robinson, the unheralded rookie who never played in college. Even though he didn’t play a minute of college ball, he was an All-Rookie performer last year. A classic case of a diamond in the rough. What flashes you saw of Marques Bolden in college was what Mitchell Robinson did to become a part of the New York plans going forward.

Energy and smart play is Bolden’s only chance to stick with the Lakers or any team in the NBA next season.
