– Warriors weakening

For the past few years, there has been no team in the NBA more dominant than the Golden State Warriors. With three championships in five years, and five straight appearances in the NBA Finals, the Warriors are certainly a dynasty.

However, all dynasties must come to an end. For the Warriors, that might be on the horizon. With both Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant as free agents, the Warriors could be suffering some big blows to their roster. Also, the injuries that both Thompson and Durant suffered could keep them off the court for a good chunk of next season, especially in Durant’s case.

Without Klay and Durant, the Warriors looked very ordinary with just Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. Even if they do bring back both Durant and Thompson, they likely won’t contribute much next season.

With it being likely that the Warriors take a step back one way or another next season, the Lakers can take advantage and claim the West. Even if they bring back both Durant and Thompson in free agency, the Warriors won’t be the same team as they were this season due to their injuries. For the first time in a long time, we could see a new team from the West in the NBA Finals.
