Recent Los Angeles Lakers rumors involve potential free agent targets as the team is reportedly interested in Bobby Portis.

With NBA Free Agency just days away, Los Angeles Lakers rumors have begun picking up. These are important Lakers rumors to pay attention to, as the team needs to find avenues to fill out their roster after the agreed upon trade with the New Orleans Pelicans.

Los Angeles finally landed their man in Anthony Davis, but it was costly. The Lakers emptied almost their entire treasure chest of assets, retaining only Kyle Kuzma.

Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart, three future first round picks and two more first-round swaps were traded for Davis. The Pelicans expanded that trade by moving the No. 4 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft from the Lakers to the Atlanta Hawks for a plethora of picks.

Los Angeles is hoping they can engage the Hawks and expand the original Davis trade to a three-team deal to open up enough cap space to have a max salary spot available.

Whether the Lakers successfully engage the Hawks to expand the agreed upon the deal to a three-team deal, they will have some money to spend in free agency. Who that money will be spent on is another question.

Los Angeles has been linked to some of the bigger named free agents available. Kemba Walker and Jimmy Butler have been named as the team’s top priorities following the trade for Davis.

There is still some work to be done if the team wants to acquire someone of that caliber. But, that may not be their best strategy. With only five players currently under contract, they need to fill out the remainder of the roster. Signing multiple players with their cap space may be the way to go, and one player to keep an eye on is Bobby Portis.

According to Chris Hughes of NBC Sports Washington, the Lakers are one of seven teams that will have interest in Portis. In addition to the Lakers, the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers, Utah Jazz, Milwaukee Bucks and Orlando Magic are expected to show interest in him.

The interest in Portis is understandable. He averaged 14.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.7 blocks and 0.4 steals in 26 minutes per game between the Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards.

Portis would provide Los Angeles with some much-needed depth in the frontcourt where Moritz Wagner is the only player on the roster currently other than Davis.

He would also provide the purple and gold with some much-needed floor-spacing, as Portis knocked down 39.3 percent of his 3-point attempts last season and is a 36.1 percent shooter for his career.

Landing Portis will not be easy, as it sounds like he will have plenty of teams looking to acquire his services. If he is someone that the team does pursue, it is a clear change in free agency plans for Los Angeles.
