The Los Angeles Lakers received permission to talk to Golden State Warriors assistant coach, Ron Adams, and need to do everything possible to bring him aboard.

It was reported by Ohm Youngmisuk and Adrian Wojnarowski that the Los Angeles Lakers received permission from the Golden State Warriors to interview Ron Adams.

Adams is highly regarded as one of the top assistant coaches in the NBA, if not the best defensive mind.

Adams would be a tremendous hire if the Lakers were able to snag him away from Golden State. Not only would he bring an experienced presence to the Lakers bench with Jason Kidd and Frank Vogel, but would also greatly improve the defensive schemes.

Vogel and Adams could each work together to come up with a defense that could contain high octane offenses. Both coaches have been apart of some great defensive teams in the past and have a defensive mindset.

Looking at his track record, it is a really good one. Along the way, Adams has been an assistant on some of the best defensive teams in the league over the last 10 years and created a blueprint with each of them. They include the Oklahoma City Thunder, Chicago Bulls, Boston Celtics and Golden State Warriors.

Each of those teams has created a defensive identity that has made playing against them on a nightly basis a nightmare. Add in what Vogel preached in his Indiana days and that would create a good duo in terms of finding what the team wants to be on the defensive end.

Ron Adams will not come cheap and it will take a lot to pry him away from Golden State. But, this is the Lakers we’re talking about and the pockets are deep. If they’re willing to offer a higher salary and more years, I believe Adams would highly consider trading Northern California for Southern California.

The Lakers will score plenty on offense to compete in games, but as the season wears on you want to create a defensive plan for when games slow down and the court shortens. Late in the season and in the playoffs teams turn more into halfcourt offenses and that’s where Adams schemes would play a huge role.

The Lakers goal is clear; build a staff around Frank Vogel that is experienced. Jason Kidd provides many years in the NBA as a player and head coaching experience. Ron Adams would provide over 40 years of coaching to the staff.

When you have a high profile team and bring in players that have superstar written on them, it is good to have a staff that can contain egos. Ron Adams has dealt with Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, Paul Pierce, Derrick Rose, Stephen Curry and many others, so he is experienced in that area.

Play your cards right and the next duo he could be coaching is Anthony Davis and LeBron James. This would be a huge hire for the Lakers and would be one of the low key best signings of the offseason, even if it’s not a player.
