I’ll begin by stating that James didn’t have a let down season. It was a let down maybe for his standards of play. The numbers were there, but it seemed like at times he was non-existent on defense and didn’t finish games like he’s capable of. Some can be attributed to his groin injury. James has never missed more than a few weeks in his career, so it was something he hadn’t experienced.

This season, James may see a lot of time at point guard. It was reported this week that he may start at point guard. This may be a good thing as the Lakers will have more ball movement as James will look to defer more than usual.

The Lakers missing the playoffs, also gave James more rest. The man had made the Finals in eight straight years. He hasn’t had this much rest since his second year in the league. Last season, he ended up averaging 27.4 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 8.3 assists. It’s realistic to expect similar numbers despite him entering his 17th season. That’s how great he is. The difference will be James will be healthier, and full of energy in his second go with the Lakers.
