Recent Los Angeles Lakers rumors involve Kyle Kuzma, who will reportedly be sidelined through mid-October.
With training camp beginning this weekend, there have been some Los Angeles Lakers rumors popping up regarding how lineups could shake out once the games get started. Unfortunately, the most recent Lakers rumors are not overly positive.
Earlier in the week, it was reported that forward Kyle Kuzma would not be ready for the beginning of training camp. With some of their preseason games being played in China, the Lakers are starting training camp a little earlier than other teams, as things will get underway Saturday.
With an earlier start, it would be understandable that Kuzma may take a little longer to get going. He played with Team USA this summer preparing for the FIBA World Cup, was didn’t make the final roster because of an ankle injury. However, that ankle injury may be worse than originally thought.
When Kuzma left Team USA in August, it was listed as left ‘ankle soreness’ according to Marc Stein.
Well, that would have been encouraging if it was only soreness he was working through. It turns out that the injury is worse than that, as Kuzma is dealing with a stress reaction in his left foot that was suffered during training camp with Team USA.
The Lakers official website shared the update and said that he is progressing in his rehab from the injury. However, it was added that he has yet to be cleared for participation in full practice or games.

That is all we know about the extent of the injury for now. We won’t know fully what is going on until the team returns from China, which is when Kuzma will undergo an MRI.
This is certainly discouraging news that Kuzma will not play until mid-October. The Lakers final game in China is Oct. 12, so he will undergo his MRI shortly after that.
Even if he gets the tests done that day and is cleared for everything, he won’t have much time to prepare for the regular season. With the season opener scheduled for Oct. 22, there is a chance that he will miss some of those games as well as he will have only 10 days to get ready.
This is a less than ideal way for the Lakers to begin training camp. Kuzma is set to be an integral part of their rotation and the less time he is on the court during the preseason, the longer it will take for the team to develop chemistry and cohesion.
Hopefully, the MRI won’t show much more damage and Kuzma will be able to return to the court as soon as possible following the test. The sooner that Kuzma can get back on the court the better.
