Dwyane Wade retired at the end of this past season. Wade will likely not return this season or any time in the future. But if he did, what would it be like if he joined the Los Angeles Lakers?

Dwyane Wade has spoken a variety of times on the Los Angeles Lakers. Of course, with his buddy LeBron James on the team, he will give his thoughts.

He has made it clear that he will be in the facilities helping guys like LeBron and Anthony Davis. It appears that Wade will be really involved with the Lakers. After all, he is staying in Los Angeles.

If Dwyane Wade were to decide that he’s bored and bust a Michael Jordan anytime soon, it will be likely with the Lakers. It just makes sense.

He loves the city, and his buddy is playing there, and playing at a high level still. The Lakers will be one of the best teams in the league going forward as long as they can re-sign Anthony Davis in the offseason.

Wade has had an unreal career. He has all the accolades one can dream of. He is a three-time NBA champ, a 13-time All-Star, a scoring champ, and a three-time All-Defensive Second Team member. He’s simply done it all.

Whether Dwyane Wade steps foot on an NBA floor or not, he has established himself as one of the best guards of all-time. His legendary 2006 finals run in which he won his first title with Shaquille O’Neal was one of the best of all-time. In those finals, he averaged 34.7 points, the third-highest mark ever.

That finals run opened the eyes and gave him separation from any guard in basketball with the exception of Kobe Bryant.

If Wade comes back he is obviously not that player. It’s not possible to be. He has played 16 years of the highest level of basketball and is 37-years-old. However, he is still a helpful player.

Last season with the Heat he averaged 15 points, 4.2 assists, and four rebounds. Those were actually better numbers than he had the previous two seasons when he averaged 11 and 12 points.

It’s clear he can still get it done. He does a bit of everything. He can still go to the basket, has a mid-range game, can make plays for others, and is one of the smartest players in the league.

Adding Dwyane Wade on the floor alongside LeBron, Davis, and Kyle Kuzma will be a nice compliment. The Lakers can count on him to give it everything on both ends. Despite being out of his prime, guys in the league know he’s capable of outplaying them any given night.

Last season he had 17 games in which he scored at least 20 points.

The Lakers have a $1.75 million disabled player exception with the DeMarcus Cousins injury. Using it to land Wade will give the Lakers another reliable weapon.

Of course, this seems like a pipe dream, but it doesn’t hurt to talk about it.
