3.) Home Uniform (1967-1978)

1967 marked a dynamic change for the Los Angeles Lakers as the team was bought by Los Angeles businessman Jack Kent Cooke, who amongst other things, decided to bring in a fresh, new look for the Laker uniforms. The result was the first iteration of the ‘purple and gold’ that we have grown to love.

Legends like Jerry West and Wilt Chamberlain suited up in this jersey and accomplished a number of milestones in the process such as winning 33 straight games — a record that is still unbeaten to this day — and winning the NBA title in the same season. Also when Jerry West averaged nearly 38 points per game in the 1969 Finals and won the first-ever Finals MVP award, it was in this uniform.

The thing that immediately catches the eye about these jerseys, aside from the deep gold color, is the slightly crooked placement of the Laker name, which for some reason makes these uniforms better rather than detract from their appearance.

But most importantly, these jerseys set the precedent upon which all future Laker jersey designs would follow, and for that, this jersey deserves a top-three spot.
