2. More Money

Not only can playing with LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers net Darren Collison more money over the long run, but Rob Pelinka can offer the veteran guard more money than the Los Angeles Clippers can. While money is not everything to Collison, who walked away from large contract offers this past year due to personal and religious reasons, it definitely could not hurt.

According to Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report, if Darren Collison were to sign with the Clippers around the NBA trade deadline, he would be eligible for a prorated contract worth approximately $956,000 for the remainder of the season. Thanks to the disabled player exception that the Lakers received for the injured DeMarcus Cousins earlier this season, Pelinka would be able to offer Collison $1.75 million.

Both contract offers would be well short of the amount of money the guard could have fetched this past summer in free agency. Due to this, expect Darren Collison to try and secure the most money available to him.

Assuming the Lakers offer Collison the entire $1.75 million, they should have the upper hand in the pursuit for Collison. This would be money well spent in order to replace the aging Rajon Rondo.
