2. He can handle the ball

The Lakers don’t possess many guards that can handle the ball. LeBron James is the point guard for this team but their guards are more catch and shoot players. Danny Green and Avery Bradley have never been known to be great ball handlers.

Rajon Rondo is also on the roster but his specialty is passing. Whenever he has the ball there isn’t much fear that he can score in a variety of ways. Waiters gives you that added punch, that he can go get an easy two or can shoot.

He is a career 35% 3-point shooter and has gradually increased his shooting as his career has gone on. He can also beat defenders in an iso situation and can add an experienced ball-handler to the floor. That could help open up this Lakers offense even more as the season progresses.

He can play a combo guard spot with Rondo on the floor or the Lakers could decide to cut Rondo from the rotation. I believe Waiters, with all the mental issues of himself fixed, is a far better player than Rondo. His abilities would elevate this team and help them get easier baskets with his playmaking ability.

If the Lakers could close with Waiters, Green, Kuzma, Davis and LeBron. That gives them three players that can create their own shot, plenty of spacing and two ball handlers. It would also be a very good lineup to compete with some of the best.
