Recent Los Angeles Lakers rumors involve Dion Waiters, who the team is having a workout for today.
With the cutoff date for the NBA buyout market now behind us, Los Angeles Lakers rumors will once again pick up. March 1st was the last day a player could be released and still eligible to play in the postseason.
As a result, the Lakers did Troy Daniels a solid. Daniels was released on Sunday, giving him an opportunity to find a new team to latch on to for a potential postseason run. Daniels was far from the Lakers’ rotation and was rumored to be on the chopping block earlier when DeMarcus Cousins was waived.
With Daniels now a free agent, the team has an open roster spot to dip back into free agency. Markieff Morris was signed to take the roster spot of Cousins, who is remaining with the team to continue rehabbing his ACL injury.
There are some needs on the roster for the Lakers, as they could use some scoring punch, another facilitator and ball-handler and a wing defender. Finding someone to fill all those holes at this point in the season is nearly impossible, but they seem to have narrowed down their choices. One of those choices is Dion Waiters.
According to Dave McMenamin of ESPN, the Lakers will have Waiters in for a workout today.
Waiters has been connected to the Lakers for a few weeks now. After being dealt to the Memphis Grizzlies from the Miami Heat prior to the NBA Trade Deadline, he was immediately waived. Almost as quickly as he was waived were the Lakers connected as a potential landing spot.

Waiters has had meetings with the team, but now they are going to work him out on the court to see how he does. There is no denying that Waiters has talent, but harnessing that talent and staying out of trouble has been difficult for him at times.
Waiters was suspended three separate times this season by the Heat. He called the coaching staff out on social media, had an incident on the team plane and had conduct detrimental to the team. As a result, he appeared in only three games with Miami between January 24-28 and that is all the basketball he has played this season.
There are other players on the market that the Lakers are likely to show some level of interest in. J.R. Smith and Tyler Johnson are two players that have been linked to Los Angeles. Allen Crabbe and Anthony Tolliver are two more people that joined the pool prior to the deadline on March 1st.
The Lakers will sign someone eventually, but they will take their time with it. If an injury occurs, that would speed up the process. But for now, they are going to do their due diligence and wait it out until they find someone they believe will help push them toward winning a championship.
