Recent Los Angeles Lakers rumors involve the direction the league could head in, as the players believe they could play into the summer.

With the uncertainty surrounding the NBA and sports world, there have been some Los Angeles Lakers rumors about how things could go in the coming weeks.

Right now, the NBA has suspended its league indefinitely. Commissioner Adam Silver has said the league will re-evaluate things in 30 days to see which changes need to be made.

This stems from multiple players testing positive for COVID-19. Rudy Gobert was the first player to test positive for the virus, which caused a delay in the game between the Utah Jazz and Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night.

Eventually, the game was postponed after it was revealed that Gobert tested positive. His teammate, Donovan Mitchell, has also tested positive for the virus.

As a result, the league has also put other policies in place. Through March 16th, players must remain in the market of their team. No one can meet in groups for workouts or practice and players are encouraged to stay home as long as possible. Players have to speak to a trainer or team physician once a day as well.

There are also five teams who will be self-quarantined because they have played against the Utah Jazz within the last 10 days. In addition to those five teams, the Toronto Raptors, Cleveland Cavaliers, New York Knicks, Boston Celtics and Detroit Pistons, the Washington Wizards are self-quarantining as well.

While all of this news is terrible, there is one silver lining. Based on the conference call Lakers‘ players had with Rob Pelinka and Frank Vogel, they came away feeling that NBA owners want to finish both the regular season and postseason even if it goes into late June, July or August.

This is something that Dallas Mavericks’ owner, Mark Cuban, also believes this could happen. During an interview with ESPN, he said he could see the season stretching into August.

If the 2019-20 season is going to be finished, it would seem that going into the summer would have to occur. If things pick back up right after the 30-day window, that puts us in mid-April. That puts us right around when the NBA playoffs were expected to start.

It is hard to believe the NBA would jump right into the playoffs after a month without games. Some time would be needed for teams and players to get back up to speed.

It is encouraging that the players came away feeling that positively about eventually getting back on the court. However, there will have to be some schedule adjustments made.

The NBA Draft is set for June 25th. Free agency usually starts about a week after that. Both events would presumably have to be moved back if the 2019-20 season is still be completed by then.

Other things, such as the time for collegiate players to declare for the draft and NBA Combine would have to be adjusted accordingly as well.

Hopefully, the NBA is able to get back up and running shortly after their 30-day window. However, a lot can change between now and mid-April, so we will all have to wait and see how things progress in the coming weeks.
