Los Angeles Lakers: Dwight Howard’s three best games of the season
Charlotte Hornets at Los Angeles Lakers — October 27, 2019
Dwight’s best game came very early in the season against his former team Charlotte Hornets. And he needed it to prove the world and especially the Lakers that he was about serious business. He was not joking around this time. His career was on the line and he was ready to do whatever it takes to remain in the league.
He had his money, he had his accolades, he had his teams. Now it’s all about remaining around the league as long as possible and getting that ring. No shame in it. Just accepting that the game has changed, his body has aged and acknowledging that he has learned from the mistakes made in the past.
So the 6’10” center put on a pretty good show at Staples Center for Rob Pelinka, Kurt Rambis and the fans in the crowd. With a perfect 8-for-8 from the field he scored 16 points adding 10 rebounds. He also blocked four shots.
Everything in less than 23 minutes of action. Unfortunately, he ruined the performance missing both his free throws, but it was not enough to undermine his team-leading and season-best +23 Plus/Minus.
This game was an early statement for Howard. From that moment on his teammates knew they could count on him. He could be a valuable piece for the team’s run at the championship.
It was not actually the first game of the year, but what a way to start the season!
It is safe to say that Dwight Howard has met the best-possible expectations that the team had when inking him to a one-year deal.
